Peix al cap: Samira

Samira comes from the Algerian coast. She arrives in Barcelona as an explorer, and the captain of her own ship. Above her head, she carries a yellowmouth barracuda—a fish local to the coast of Algeria.

Like many who have crossed from North Africa to Southern Europe, her arrival is not met without resistance. Suspicion, distance, and prejudice, are echoes of the past that remain present today. In a city built on layers of mixed cultures, it’s crazy how often difference is still perceived as a threat rather than an opportunity. Instead of curiosity, there is fear. Instead of exchange, rejection. Samira stands in contrast to that mindset. She represents movement, strength, and openness, the willingness to cross borders, not only physically, but culturally. And somewhere in this crossing of worlds, she is about to meet Pol—someone who dreams of becoming what she already is.
